The Sea Beggars And The Siege Of Leiden

The siege of Leiden happened in the Netherlands in 1573 and 1574.  The Spanish were trying to capture the Dutch city of Leiden.  The Dutch rebel fleet was known as the Sea Beggars.  They lay down in flat-bottomed barges, arriving just as the city was starving and fed the people of Leiden with white bread and herring.
